Learning
Our Learning:
The New School Year 2024/25 promises to be a very exciting time in school! As we begin the brand new term, we will make the most of the cooler, pleasant days and take some of our learning outside when it's dry.
As a class, we are very aware of the importance of looking after our mental well-being and we always make time to gather for story time. We will be reading our brilliant new class book - 'Carrie's War, by Nina Bawden', which we are really looking forward to diving into. This links to our brand new topic of World War II, which we are really looking forward to learning about.
Reading:
Reading is a huge priority at our school and we want the children to be confident, fluent readers finding pleasure from a wide range of texts!
We encourage children to read as much as possible! They will read daily to themselves in school and they will also read to an adult in class. Reading is a huge focus in school and children are encouraged to read texts often, to work their way through the reading stages! Let's see who can achieve their Bronze award first! Our current whole-school focus book is 'The Song For Everyone' by Lucy Morris.
Remarkable Readers!
Reading at home is one of the most important ways in which you can help your child. Children who read with their families develop these skills much more quickly and develop a love of Reading that can last a lifetime. Being a confident Reader supports children in all areas of the curriculum and beyond school.
Our new Reading recognition system, Remarkable Readers, aims to ensure that all our children are remarkable at their Reading skills throughout the year.
Each time a child reads at home to independently, or to an adult at home, they achieve a ‘Reading Point’
Reading Points are cumulative and will be added up weekly throughout the year.
35 points = Bronze Award (Certificate and a message home)
70 points = Brilliant Bronze Award (Certificate, message home and prize)
105 points = Silver Award (Certificate, message home and prize)
140 points = Super Silver Award (Certificate, message home and prize)
175 points = Gold Award (Certificate, message home from Mrs Clifford and book prize)
210 points = Glittering gold Award (Certificate, message home and an Afternoon Tea in The Reading Nook with our Reading Ambassadors)
P.E and Other Activities
Our P.E day is every Monday, but we may have additional opportunities to work and enjoy the fresh air. All P.E lessons will be carried out in a safe way that adheres to all of the guidelines that we must follow. Our P.E lessons will occur weekly on a timetable and will consist of a range of learning that will take place both indoors and outdoors! P.E kits must be brought into school on a Monday and this will need to stay in school all week.
Hi Oak Class! As requested, I have left my Division video for you to watch. Keep practising with your division strategies, which we will be looking at just before half term. Have a look and see if you can copy my working out. Enjoy, Mrs Hatch 👍🏼

Reading at home
Reading is a fundamental skill and it is incredibly important to continue to read a wide variety of books at home. Whether you are learning from home or in school, it is important to read as much as possible to improve your reading stamina, develop your word knowledge and ultimately enjoy immersing yourself in the wonderful world of story telling.
On the website, there is now a dedicated folder to 'Reading'. It is under 'Parents' and then 'Reading'. This page explains about the Oxford Reading Scheme and gives yourself and your adults useful tips on how to support reading at home. It has some fantastic suggestions of questions to ask when reading at home and offers guidance for parents to feedback to teachers about their child's reading.
PE will be outdoors as much as possible, so we will have chance to practise our athletic skills and ball handling skills as much as possible before the colder weather sets in!
Reading Superstars are always checked weekly by our LSAs.
To become a Reading Superstar - you must read 3 times to yourself in school, 3 times at home and 3 times to an adult at home to reach the superstar goal! There are prizes for children that reach this target every week in a half-term and also termly so get reading!
