Intent
Why do we teach this? Why do we teach it in the way that we do?
At Kirkby Avenue Primary School, we aim for learners to be curious about the world they live in and use this curiosity to further their learning by asking questions and investigating a range of sources. As a diverse school, we celebrate familial origins from around the globe and ensure our curriculum allows children to make links between the school community and the wider world.
It is our ambition that all our children become environmentally conscious geographers. In order for this to be achieved, children need to be able to:
Ask a range of geographical questions and understand how these may have different implications around the world.
Practically apply their knowledge in the field and during investigations, using a range of equipment and resources.
Analyse information from a range of sources, being observant of patterns and anomalies.
Organise geographic information in different ways to present their findings in an effective and coherent manner.
Use the data and evidence available to them to answer their hypotheses, justifying their reasoning.
