Welcome to Maple Class 2019-2020!
Teacher: Miss Stone
LSA's: Miss Stockwell, Miss Gleadell, Miss Barlow and Miss Dakovicz
This half term we have got lots of exciting things happening! Our new topic is 'Under The Sea!'
In literacy we are also doing lots of work linked to the ocean, including non-chronological reports and fact files using lots of different skills! Our class book this half term is 'Ice Palace'
In maths we will be recapping multiplication and division, followed by money, time, fractions, decimals and lots of measures and chart work! As well as using concrete objects we will be using lots of pictures and word problems to solve answers and become super mathematicians!
In our science lessons we are conducting lots of fun experiments and investigations linked to animals/ sea creatures and their habitats! We will be working as a team, making predictions and logging our outcomes.
Our history, geography and art lessons will also be linked to our 'Under The Sea!' We also have a very extensive homework menu with lots of fun activities for the children to complete at home.
During PE we are doing lots of games involving teamwork, co-ordination, accuracy and communication. PE kits must be brought in on a Monday and left in school all week for our PE sessions. PE kits should be taken home every Friday and brought back on Monday's.
As well as this we also have an ICT slot every week where we work on our ICT skills to help generate programmes, design posters and develop our ICT skills!
To be a reading superstar in Maple class you need to read three times to yourself at home, three times to yourself at school and three times to an adult at home in a week. If you do this you will win a raffle ticket and 5 team points! In Maple class we also give out a 'blind book' to the child who has met their reading superstar target the most that half term! The winning child will be able to choose a wrapped book to take home and keep!
Spellings will also go out every Friday and children will have a week to practise these before being tested on them the following Friday. Anyone who gets 10/10 will also recieve 5 team points!
Our homework goes out on a Friday and children have a choice of the homework the complete from a set menu. Homework must then be returned to school on the Wednesday ready to be marked again and sent back out on Friday. Homework should be completed to a high standard and in pencil.
We also love to give out team points and raffle tickets for the chance to win instant prizes!
Timestables are really impotrant to us at Kirkby Avenue Primary School, and so we encourage you spend some time with your child on Timestables Rockstars which they have lots of fun with! Maths with Parents is also a handy tool and is fun for you and your child to access together at home to embed taught learning.
Our PPA is on a Tuesday afternoon, and during this time children are split into different groups to learn lots of new skills, including: sewing, hot and cold baking, gardening, arts and crafts, PE and ICT.
We also have an exciting trip coming up to 'The Deep' on the 23rd March to tie in with all our learning in school!
