Welcome to Oak Class

The teacher is Mrs Hatch. Mrs Leach and Miss Gleadell are the LSA's in Oak Class.
Learning
Our Learning:
This is a very exciting Half Term!
In our English sessions we will be exploring our new class book - The Boy at the Back of the Class
As writers, we will draft, edit and write up Diary Entries and Explanation Texts linked to this book.
In addition, we will be researching and discussing the wonderful contributions in which many women have made to Science. We will then choose one of these extraordinary women to write a biography about.
In our Maths sessions, we will further develop our knowledge and skills of Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. As Mathematicians, we will also continue to embed our knowledge of Roman Numerals and be able to identify and use them to 1000.
As Scientists we will be exploring Magic and the Science behind some amazing phenomenon. Throughout this topic, we will be completing a range of investigations and experiments to support our learning and understanding of how to work Scientifically.
Below is a copy of our Parent/Carer Forecast for Spring 1. This useful document highlights the exciting opportunities that will be taking place in Oak Class throughout our third Half-Term. In addition, you can also find our Long-Term Plan and other useful learning tools. The Long-Term Plan provides you with an overview of our learning throughout this academic year. If you have any further questions about our learning, please don’t hesitate to ask.
SATS
In 2022 the KS2 SATs will take place between Monday 9th May 2022 – Thursday 12th May 2022. We are encouraging all of the children in Year 6 to frequently use their revision guides to build up their confidence and speed. If you haven't got a copy of the revision books yet, please speak to Mrs hatch, Miss Gleadell of Mrs Leach. We are so pleased with the attendance of our Booster clubs last half-term! Please continue to attend your Booster sessions and keep up the hard work and dedication that you are demonstrating.
P.E and Other Activities
Our P.E day is every Tuesday, but we may have additional opportunities to work and enjoy the fresh air. All P.E lessons will be carried out in a safe way that adheres to all of the guidelines that we must follow. Our P.E lessons will occur weekly on a timetable and will consist of a range of learning that will take place both indoors and outdoors! P.E kits must be brought into school on a Monday and this will need to stay in school all week.
Working from Home? We miss you and hope that you are feeling better soon.
So that you can continue with your Learning, here are the latest Home Learning Packs. If you have a printer, you could print and bring in to show us on your return. If you do not have a printer, number and date the tasks and complete them on paper or a notebook, then bring to show us on your return to school.Alternatively, if you contact school, we will arrange for a printed copy to be available for collection.
Hi Oak Class! I’m really missing you all and loving the online work that you’re submitting, you’re doing brilliantly.
I’ve made a short video on the division by two numbers that we were looking at just before we locked down. Have a look and see if you can copy my working out. Enjoy, Mrs Hatch 👍🏼

Reading at home
Reading is a fundamental skill and it is incredibly important to continue to read a wide variety of books at home. Whether you are learning from home or in school, it is important to read as much as possible to improve your reading stamina, develop your word knowledge and ultimately enjoy immersing yourself in the wonderful world of story telling.
On the website, there is now a dedicated folder to 'Reading'. It is under 'Parents' and then 'Reading'. This page explains about the Oxford Reading Scheme and gives yourself and your adults useful tips on how to support reading at home. It has some fantastic suggestions of questions to ask when reading at home and offers guidance for parents to feedback to teachers about their child's reading.
PE will be outdoors as much as possible, so we will have chance to practise our athletic skills and ball handling skills as much as possible before the colder weather sets in!
Reading Superstars are always checked weekly by our LSAs.
To become a Reading Superstar - you must read 3 times to yourself in school, 3 times at home and 3 times to an adult at home to reach the superstar goal! There are prizes for children that reach this target every week in a half-term and also termly so get reading!
Times Tables Rock Stars
The children love TT Rockstars! We are continuing our daily 'Times Tables Rock Stars' sessions. Remember, you can use your login at home to work on your skills and challenge staff and children, if you haven't logged in at home yet, try and have a go! We have been really impressed with many children from our class using this at home - we love the fact that you are challenging members of staff too!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
